Open House 2008

Right out of the gate we had an issue with weather, the setup team worked all day Friday, finishing up in the rain, to make sure all was ready. Special thanks go out to Scott Souza, Gene Ellis, Mark Rosenzweig, and Stu Hefter. Plus, a few weeks before the event, David McBurnie brought in his tractor and brush-hog to get the grounds ready for visitors. As if that wasn't enough, many members changed their work schedules to support the Open House. Be sure to thank everyone involved for their hard work.

Now, back to our story...

Attendance was very light in the early morning hours, it wasn't raining, but it was overcast and extremely humid. The 9:00 AM IDPA Demo was cancelled - there was nobody to watch. Some members - thinking all was lost - wept openly. Then...

Almost on cue, the clouds parted and the sun peaked out - we were saved! Some thought it was a freak wind out of the southwest, others thought it was the muzzle blast from the Grizzly that blew away the clouds. Well, I was there, I saw it with my own eyes - the sun just came out and that's all there is to it. I'll let the historians and conspiracy theorists fight it out. No matter how you cut it, when the weather cleared up - the people came in droves - we were in business!

Luckily, the Club's elite team of photojournalists returned from their annual survival training on the Patagonian steppes just in time to record the festivities. We have photos grouped according to activity below along with some videos. Please take the time to view them all, you won’t be sorry. Every attempt was made to accurately reference people in the photos. We apologize for any mistakes. Please submit any additions or corrections to the Webmaster.

The picnic was a complete success, here are the stats:
