Open House 2009

2009 was the third in our string of Open House "Mega-Parties".  From the outset there were a number of challenges we faced:

Long story short, the answers (in order) were: "Yes", "Well, we tried", and "No".

The 50 yard Range looked fantastic. Thanks to Cabin Creek Builders the project was done ahead of schedule (see the 50 yard Range Refurbishment Page for details). As always, a too small group of members put in a lot of hours to get the facilities ready for the Open House.

We struggled with how to build on last year's event. But how could we improve what was nationally recognized as the best Open House ever? After some heated debate, we all agreed that what our Open Houses really needed were loud noises and bright flashes. Luckily loud noises and bright flashes are available for purchase in small plastic jars with orange labels that say "Tannerite".

Tannerite is a "target-indicator". In other words, it makes a loud noise and bright flash when hit with a rifle bullet.  Perfect! We were in business! All we needed was to have one of our elite photojournalists capture video of one of our many expert shooters hitting a Tannerite container. Sounds simple right? Well, read on, it is what we now refer to simply as "The Tale of the Tannerite"...

Before getting into details, we wish to thank our great friends at Zack's Sports for sponsoring our Annual Newsletter.

We have photos along with some videos. I apologize for not having more. I was so distraught after the whole "Tannerite Episode", I was never able to get my head back in the game.

Every attempt was made to accurately reference people in the photos and videos. We apologize for any mistakes. Please submit any additions or corrections to the Webmaster.
